A note from Fr. Cory

Mar 2, 2018

Dear Friends in Christ,

Following the Second Vatican Council, Rev. Pedro Arrupe, S.J. found himself Superior General of the Society of Jesus, the largest religious order in the world. Arrupe responded to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and traveled across the world exhorting the Jesuits to reclaim their roots and the heart of Saint Ignatius. During one such visit, Arrupe spoke at length about the call to fall in love. As his inspired speech came to conclusion, a skeptic naysayer retorted, "That's great, Father, but give me something practical." Without skipping a beat, Arrupe responded from the heart of his love for God. He said, "Nothing is more practical than finding God, that is, than falling in love in a quite absolute, final way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination, will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the morning, what you will do with your evenings, how you will spend your weekends, what you read, who you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in love, stay in love and it will decide everything. What [we] are in love with, what seizes [our] imagination will affect everything.” As Jesus begins, He knows that the destination of His journey was Jerusalem (Luke 9:53) and with it, the Cross. Jesus is nevertheless determined because Jesus is in love. The love that Jesus has for His Bride (the Church) determines everything in Jesus' life. During this journey, you will be invited to walk with Jesus, talk with Jesus, and pray with Jesus. You will be with Jesus. You will witness the dead rise. You will see bread multiplied. You will taste mercy beyond all measure. Most importantly, you will be invited to follow a person - Jesus. You will be invited to fall in love with a person - Jesus. He is calling you. He wants you. Fall in love. Stay in love. Let it decide everything in your life.

God bless,
