Our Ministry

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that music in liturgy is the highest form of art:

1156 “The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as a combination of sacred music and words, it forms a necessary or integral part of solemn liturgy.”20 … “He who sings prays twice.”21

At St. Jude, we are committed to growing music ministry – not just growing in participation of vocalists and musicians, but in our musical abilities, our understanding of liturgy, and our resources, always with the focus of reverence to the presence of God, and appropriate to the specific liturgy, especially the beauty of the Holy Mass.

A PERSONAL INVITATION to you from
Rita Bagley, Director of Music Ministry

Greetings St Jude family and visitors. Thank you for taking the time to stop by.  Members of St Jude of the Lake Music Ministry have created the following “Excerpts and Episodes of Prayer” with the hope that your heart will be lifted by the music and the messages of faith we share here.  We hope you will join us in prayerful song, either by singing along or just listening to one of the recordings we’ve made for you below, but we truly hope you will join us at Holy Mass – and the many beautiful liturgies offered at St. Jude of the Lake.

We pray the music, offering it to God and to you with humble hearts. May the Holy Spirit use us and our skills and talents as His instrument to bring us, our parish family and all who visit, closer to God.

To those with musical talent and abilities, let me assure you that those who serve at His altar are abundantly blessed! There is no greater privilege than to serve God at the altar that brings Jesus to us in the Holy Eucharist. What an extraordinary opportunity to offer our musical gifts as Jesus His Son is made manifest: body, blood, soul and divinity in the Holy Eucharist at every Mass! Sing a New Song to the Lord!

Please don’t hesitate to call me (651-352-5950) with any questions about music ministry and how you might participation in it – and let’s create a way for you to join us and serve God at His altar.
